AMMOLITE OR AMMONITE?
An Ammonite is the commonly used word describing ammonoids. Ammonoids were a large and diverse group of sea creatures similar to cephalopods like cuttlefish, squids, octopuses and even the modern Nautilus. With tentacles like a squid and a multi-chambered shell, these were the most diverse and widely found creatures on earth from the Antarctic to the Great Plains. There have been over 10,000 species of different ammonites over time and they have even survived two of earth's three major extinction events, unfortunately the last one 66 million years ago killed off their main food source, marine plankton.
Due to their longevity and unique suture connections, ammonites are a great index fossil. Index fossils help to age and date other fossils, especially if they're in the same marine rock.
Ammolite is when the fossil is opalized and gives them an iridescent sheen of red, blue, orange and more. When the Ammonite shell fossilizes the shell can form Ammolite on the outside.
Spiritually Ammonites or Ammolites are very powerful earth healing fossils. The spiral shape symbolizes continual change and evolution. Ammonites stimulate the life force (Chi) within humans. Ammonites are often used for activating Kundalini and life path energies. The Ammonite is also often recommended to put in the home to attract health, prosperity and success.
